Looks like I have a virus here, unfortunately the system is extremely slow preventing me from removing it. services.exe is running at 100% (same in safe mode).

I was going to remove the drive and slave it to another system and scan it, but can't seem to get the drive out (the machine is several years old). The IDE cable in my good machine won't reach...are there extended IDE cables out there? Anything else I can try to fix this?

Thanks in advance..

This is a common problem with Win2k. First question is what service pack is installed? SP 4 was to fix some problems like this.
When the system boots is it connected to the Internet? Try pulling the network cable (or the wireless hub) so it won;t connect to the Internet. Could be something being launched across the net.
Also launch task manager and see if there is more than a single copy of services.exe running. If so the second version MIGHT be a virus. If so you will have to locate the file being launched which does not have to be called services.exe.
It could also be from an application. Some apps have fixs available on this problem.
As for an IDE cable, some cables are longer than others. Probably need to call around.

I do have the same issue after my pc got infected. I have Win 2000 SP 4; the second version of services.exe takes almost 99% CPU time. I tried anti virus and anti spy wares but not fixed yet. Any pointers towards how to fix this.
