What does this service pack contain? I've never installed either sp or had any problems, so I'm wondering if they're even necessary. I was also wondering if there is a way to tell if sp2 had been added to a win2000 installation, as I've slipstreamed sp2 into a win2000 CD but will wonder if it was successful or not. Thanks for any reply.

The service packs contain dozens if not hundreds of bug and security fixes. It is normally advised that one installs the service packs in order to have a well operating system. BTW they are cumulative(ie SP2 includes SP1). You can find a complete list of fixes here: http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q282/5/22.asp
You can check to see if it a SP has been applied by right clicking My Computer -> Properties. If under System it says Service Pack # then it has been applied.
