i was told that when you install service pack 1 it generates an uninstall file which you can safely delete, does anyone know where this is located?

Look in the Add and Remove Software window. If you haven't uninstalled SP1 yet then it should be listed, and uninstall should be possible.

IF you chose to create the backup you can uninstall. I never do that, but it's either in Add/Remove Programs or \winnt\ServicePackFiles

???? - not sure, hey least I know the service regstry entries.

It's in C:\Winnt\$NtServicePackUninstall$.
