I have a strange intermittent problem with several win2k advanced servers. When rebooted it appears that some of the services lose their password (seems to be either veritas, sophos or sql). When trying to start the service by hand the mmc reports:
Could not start the blah blah service on Local Computer. Error 1069: The service did not start due to a logon failure. The same is recorded in the event viewer:
Event ID: 7000
Source: Service Control Manager. All I need to do is to re-enter the password in the service properties and up pops a box:
The account foobar has been granted the Log On As A Service right. The service now runs fine....until another reboot when it might not work. This only seems to happen on the servers and not any of the win2k clients. The passwords have not changed since installation and everything used to be OK.
There are two things I think it might be. Something to do with our local policy (although log on as a service has been granted to the relevent user accounts) or something to do with this so called "MCSE expert" the boss brought in to troubleshoot a network fault (which ended up being a faulty switch) and since he's left our win98 client can no longer log onto the network....which is about the same time we started to experience this problem. Unfortunately we can no longer contact him, maybe somebody else got to him first!=o)
