Hi,

Can any one suggest me of this solution.

I have a file server on which we have cpu of 2.4 GHZ and RAM of 1.5 G.B

workstation connects on this server and work in file server (keeping files on server) shared folder.

there are near about 60 nodes that connect at server at the same time and work in MS Word.

My problem is that workstation complains that the server is very slow and takes time to type (work) and do other things like copy, paste and delete.

is there any solution to make server perform faster.?

thanks in advance

Please describe your network topology. For example are you on hubs or switches? What is the speed of the server nic?

Also what are you using for a hard drive(s) in the system? Make and rpms of the drive(s)? Is the OS and Word data on the same disk?

Give a person a fish, they eat for a day. Suggest they internet search and they learn a skill for a lifetime.

thanks for your responce.

we are using linear topology which is connected to switch and the nic card we are using is 10/100.

Hard drive is SATA of 110 GB 7200 RPM

Is the OS and Word data on the same disk?

I couldn't get that..

Is it in Same drive or different drive?.

well it's on single disk but in different Drive ..
eg f:/
os is in c:/
and workstation in F:/.

server has three partation
C:/
M:/
F:/

thanks

The infomation you gave not enough,i would look into few things like network monitor sometimes users access multimedia or play games that will slow down network, check users pc nic card speed they should be same speed if not then it slow down.
what time of day network slow down, what kind of switch you use, switch should take care of all collisions what OS is on server and workstation.

iam newbie i recently install suse linux 10.1 when i use su and type /etc/shadow it says permission denied i dont know why.
