I had a Computer running with Win NT4, and i was using a old 16bit DOS application called "Symate Plus" that is use to configure via com1 a PLC(controler)
It was working fine with NT4, but since i had to switch for WinXP, the application still runs, but is not able to communicate more that 2 sec. The communication keeps falling. I called the supporter for that sofware, but they told me that it's just not supported with 2K or XP. There must be a way to reconfigurer the Com Port. Does anyone has an idea? I need the soft to run on the win platform, because i swith very often from the soft to an other, while configuring.

I believe XP does not support 16bit software which access ports. NT4 as a you have found has better compatibility, therefore you would need to run the software in command prompt or run from a M$DOS boot floppy.

Also try the hardware forum?
