We just upgraded a Dell 866Mhz Windows ME machine to Win200 Pro. Installation of Win2000 was flawless! but... this computer is one of 5 on a peer to peer network. Actually all the other machines were also upgraded to Win2000 except one. The problem is everyone sees everyone else on the network but just can't access anyone else's computer without a password. Now no passwords were set up on any of these machines (win200 seems to do this by default) Oh forgot to mention not set up on a domain network. Basically we want everyone to be able to get into every one else's hard drives. If anyone has a simple solution please provide details...
Now one more problem occured That Win ME machine that was upgraded print to a shared Dot Matrix printer Roland Raven) in Accpac (Dos based accounting program) It prints fine in windows just can't seem to get it to print in Accpac. From what I see, Win2000 creates a printer port for each shared printer, now the problem is you can't seem to be able to change this. Because Accpac will only allow to print to either Lpt 1 or Lpt 2 That's it, so I think if I can configure the printer to use Lpt 2 it should work. Any info would be appreciated. Thank you all, for your time.

about the password:
just active the guest account on every win2k machine, that will solve it
(desktop -> right click on My Computer -> Manage -> Users)about the printer, no idea, sry....

Thanks I think that helped but from the one Win98 machine I cannot access any of the Win2K machines.
And still have that print problem...Thanks Greez :)

what name is the win98 machine using to log into the network? you have to have a user with the same name on the windows 2000 machines for it to be accessible by a win98 machine. or just change the win98 logon name to "guest" since theres already a user with tha name on each machine.

Either each PC has to have an account for the other registered on it; or use the kwik 'n dirty approach - 'Guest' account.
'Guest' account has limited priveliges as compared to a 'true account' access?
All stations must be in same workgroup.
The '98 system requires a valid account on the W2K system(s); use the same log-on/password for this account that you use to log-on to '98 locally.
Ensure that '98 system has same protocol installed as W2K systems ('98/W2K/XP/NT 'should' install tcp/ip by default). Ensure its NIC is not immediately adjacent to the AGP slot (if AGP in use, and using a PCI-based NIC). These two slots share same irq, and a NIC just won't LAN if installed in that environment. Have at least one slot between an active AGP and the NIC.
W2K does not allow hardware calls in dos (W2K dos option is fudge/compromise approach that works for 'some' dos apps).
Possibly the " net use " commands may allow a dos print - depends on the application? '9x(ME) were 'dos' (7x) based OS.

John Savills faqs area is a useful resource to know about; much valuable info there; and excellent resources/search facs across the whole web-site.
A search via google.com for " net use commands in windows 2000 " (no " ")) will probably bring up numerous other tutorials on net use?
A tutorial on simple (and not so) networking, that may be worth browse:

This site is efffectively a mirror of Jo Helmig's site (http://www.helmig.com) - but includes the graphics that 'Jo' has restricted on his home-site. He's restricted graphics in order to preserve web-space for more critical text/info etc. But for a 'very' modest fee (and I mean very modest - considering the effort he's put in to this long running/helpful site) you can get a key that unlocks the graphics; also allows you to download the entire web-site!

I used to have to capture the printer port from within the driver to get Sage Accounts to print (DOS based in the old days).
You should then be able to print to LPT2
