Hi everyone,
I just installed Win 2000 (after getting rid of Win XP) and found that the screen size is considerably smaller than the actual physical size of the screen after I booted the computer for the first time. I found two solutions that I don't like 100%. The first was to change the resolution to 1400x1050 (the maximum) and that way the entire screen is filled. The problem is that the font and the icons are small and changing them in the display menu does not necessarilly change the size of the font or icons everywhere. Plus, I should not have to go through all that trouble. The second option that I found was to press the "Fn" key and the F7 key (This is a Dell computer Inspiron 4100 by the way). That did the trick and I am able to use any resolution I want without having the screen viewing area changing at all. This is exactly what I wanted except that the icons, pictures and font seem out of focus and fuzzy. I wish there was a way to make the font sharp like it usually is. Do you know of any way where I can exchange the resolution to whatever I want without changing the actual viewable screen size and without affecting how sharp and clear the icon, pictures and font show on the screen?
Thank you,
Jorge

I just re-built a compaq lap top and had exactly the same issue until I installed the drivers for the graphics card - rebooted and hey presto - full screen.
You should be able to download them from dell or use windows update.

I did install the driver for the video card, that's why I am able to change the resolution to the maximum 1400x1050 value. However, I thought that after installing the driver and rebooting the problem would have been resolved, like in your case. Yet, the problem persists as described in the original post. Any solutions????
Jorge
