I think my CDRW is scratching my CDs during the burning process. Is this a problem anyone has come up against and any solutions at all?

What gives you the idea that the CD's are "scratched"?? There are many reasons why CD's do not burn or copy correctly.

Well, I put in a CD and the check the surface and find its clear. After it has burnt the Audio onto them I play it and it skips during playback.

The surface shows scratch marks on them. The only place that would come from is the burner. (I check this before I put it in the CD player). Its wierd. Obviously not a common problem then!

Try burning at a lower speed - 2x/4x: this often produces far better results, regardless of the CD burner's capabilities.

Something would have to be terribly amiss, such as a small object lodged within the drive, scraping the disc as it spins. Perhaps there is grit on the disc tray?

Burning a disc involves no actual contact with the data area.

Might not hurt to clean the unit too... Blow air through it; also use a lens cleaner util.

It is not unknown for slot entry systems to occasionally scratch disks - after a "long" period of use... (particularly with car players). Dust accumulates on the entry slot surface (usually a "soft" surface initially...). Is why many folks burn disks for car use only - to preserve the original in a decent state.

Which having said... I have one (copied - RW) CD that played fine on my car system, also the house systems... Popped it into a rental vehicle system - but it wouldn't play on it, and then neither on a friend's house and PC systems - following the rental vehicle failure... Disk won't play properly anywhere now - at least on two/three of the tracks...
