I have a slightly different problem with
"saving personal settings". Aside from the
standard "Default Users" and "All Users"
I utilize the "Administrator" user to install/
uninstall software, burn CD/DVD's, run
cleaning software, edit the registry etc.
I created another user to perform every-day
tasks. I usually use this to surf the web,
email, write correspondence and all the
other mundane daily tasks. When I log off of this user or simply
re-boot, "saving personal setting" takes an
inordinately long time to finish. Oddly
enough, simply shutting down doesn't take
long.If I am logged on as "Administrator",
re-booting or logging off is very quick.
The ntuser.dat file for Administrator is
actually larger than the one for the
secondary user. The same software runs under either user, so
I doubt that running software is causing
the problem.Any suggestions

Apparently there a number of causes of this
problem all centering around an inability
to unload a registry hive and taking approx
60 seconds of attempts to do so before giving
up.Usually shows up in the event log as:
Error Userenv 1000Apparently there are enough of these types of
problems that MS has written a separate fix.UPHClean.exe
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...Worked for me.
