I have a rather strange problem. When I open a picture with my Paint shop pro, alter it and hit SAVE, it returns an error that says
"unable to create file"

When I do the same thing in another photo editing prog, it returns this error
"cannot replace image please try again with a different file name"

It WILL let me save in a different format (gif bmp) then I can open it and again edit and save it as a JPG again.

AT first I realized that my photo folder was partially READ ONLY , I dont know how that happened but I fixed it and later it locked again.
I copied the folder contents to a new folder with a new name, and it is not locked but I still cant save a picture after I edit unless I save it with a different extension.

I have clean installed both photo progs.
No joy.
I have scan disked BOTH drives including open space and defragged both too.
No joy.
The only thing I can think of is that windoze save path is messed?
Im not sure how to fix this though.

Any answers woould be appreciated. thank you

Have you checked the properties of the files themselves to see if they are read-only?

yes I sure have.
ACTUALLY... update.. I clone my hard drive in case of emergency *g* The clone is a year old.
I swapped it out last night and it was fine, today its doing the same thing.

Just prior to all this happening, I had a ton of GIFS show up as rootkits on Bitdefender 9.

So Im thinking now.. this must b e some new kind of virus.
woohoo... ( not~)

Problem solved.
The new bit defender is on crack.
(It was the last thing I loaded before I went to bed, everything was fine before that.

I uninstalled it and everything is A-ok now.
Programs install without hanging, and jpg's dont show up as root kits.
And no files or folders are locked or READ ONLY.
Installed a diff AV and ran FULL scans.

And yes I DID download my version from their~ site.

Beats me. Im just happy my system is ok.

I originally thought it was just a paint shop pro problem.
