hi,i recently made this post: http://www.computing.net/windows2000/wwwboard/forum/53210.html and i got the response to buy a router with a switch. basically i'd like to know what the switch is there for and what it does. thanks

The switch allows you to connect multiple computers together. What they suggested that you get is a router with a 4-port switch built in (commonly called a 4-port router, which is incorrect, it is a router with a 4-port switch). You would be able to connect the modem to the WAN port and 4 computers to the switch.
