Hi
We have an NT server 4 with windows 2000 client. We have roaming profile setup for each user and a shared map h: drive on the server.
The problem is when I delete things on the H drive and logoff and logon again, it reappears. I can only delete it from C:\documents and settings\user\ then it will disappear. As I understand it, roaming profiles downloads everything from the server to the client's machine then if you have done any changes it will upload it when you logoff. But I can't delete any files from the H drive. I have tried changing the policy to exclude my documents from downloading, but ended up without my documents folder. Is there something I have to do in windows 2000 client machine?
Thanks
Ken

If you run roaming profiles your profile is downloaded from your server when you log in and then uploaded back to the server from your PC when you log out. If you first log in and then make changes to your profile on the server these changes will then be overwritten when you log out as the server profile is overwritten by the uploaded profile from your PC.
The only way to edit a user profile on the server is for that user not to be logged in and for you to log in as another user.

Did this problem exist before upgrading the workstations to 2000? Chances are the answer will be no for a few reasons. For one, NT4 and 2000 store profiles in different folders using different paths. Write access in 2000 is slightly than with NT4. To account for this you might need to grant full access as opposed to just read or write. Also, I do not recall exactly how the admins at my previous company set things up but I beleive we had separate drives for network storage and our roaming profiles.
HTH?

I didn't upgrade the machines, they came with Windows 2000 pro client but we have only Windows NT server 4.
