While I am in IE 6.0 I will open Tools> Internet Options> then it will open a window...

Restrictions
This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator.

I am signed on as administrator. I can access internet options from control panel (however the homepage section there is greyed out) I have Reset my Web settings including homepage and this did not affect the action that occurs while I have IE open. Is there a security permision setting for this that I have overlooked? How do I resolve this? Thanks in advance..

Hi weatherjack,

Are you using Spybot S&D? In the immunize section you can choose to lock your IE start page and IE control panel.

If that was not the answer, the easiest way to rid yourself of the restrictions is to use HijackThis http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/

You will find either of the two entries
O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Restrictions present

O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel present

Close all browser windows then fix them using HijackThis and reboot.

This is really useful. Thanks a lot.

Also when my computer get hajacked, the bad guy is really bad. They not only change my homepage to their page, also they grey out my internet option so that I cannot change it.

So I have to try the regEdit, then again, the permission to use regEdit is changed, so I can't start regEdit.

After that, I found my Start-->run disappeared. I am so angry!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here is how I fixed:
1. Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

Use Xteg to disable the restriction to use regEdit.

Ah found it do this Xteq folder open system/security/disabled options/enable regedit

2. how to show Start run:

To limit access to the local workstation, set the data value of the NoRun DWORD value to 0x1 in the following registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

Setting this value disables viewing local files by typing a file address or URL (for example, "file://c:\") in the Address box, and also disables the Run command on the Start menu.

Change Norun to 0.

3. How to be able to set the IE homepage again?
delete the following.

HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Restrictions present

O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel present
