I've upgraded to Windows 2000 Professional from Windows Me, but I'd like to restore my old OS.
Is this possible, without losing settings from Win Me?
My system partition is still FAT32.Thanks.

Windows2000 is way better that's for sure.
Smart thing that you left everything on FAT32! That way you could go back to winME or win98....

before going back winME, why not convert existing FAT32 to NTFS and see if win2000 will run more smoothly...

I have a copy of Windows ME. I use it to balance the legs on my desk, and it works very well for that purpose. The desk hardly wobbles at all now.

My advice would be to get a gun and several ME cd's so you can shoot "clay pigeons". this is the only thing anybody should ever do with ME. Destroying all ME cd's makes your computer feel safe and cozy knowing that it will never have the tragedy of Windows Millenium installed upon its hard drive. No computer in the world is safe until all these cd's are destroyed.

I dual boot with ME and w2k.......ME works fine on my computer in the short run. In other words I don’t leave it on 24 hours a day. Windows 2000 is a good OS but it doesn’t play games well.
Unfortunately if you upgraded over your ME system there is no going back, short of a reinstall of Windows ME. If ME is still on your system on another partition, you can boot with a ME boot disk. Then at the A: prompt type
sys c:If it still wont boot at the a:prompt
fdisk /mbrThis will allow your ME install to boot again.
Hope that helps.
Obviously these guys are not playing games on there Windows 2000 computers.

Games you say? I've heard tales of an OS called Windows XP. Perhaps it is just a myth, but it would be worth looking into.
Anything is better than ME. I'd go back to 98 first if I had no other choice.

Common problems people experience with windows me are :
1. OEM distros
2. Attempt to use it for business
3. Not disabling system restore
4. Software or hardware incompatibility
5. Beleiving minimum specs tag on boxThese threads are usually worded differently . Here are a few examples .
"worst os" "it sux" "get rid of it"
Your problem with 2000 might be because you upgraded over windows me. Windows me is not an upgrade path of windows 2000.
Try a clean install on a formatted drive choosing ntfs. This way you will be able to experience what windows 2000 is supposed to be.
XP is great. The pro version is around $299.00 [amazon.com retail full version] and your allowed to use it on one PC. If spending another $300.00 isnt an option give 2000 a shot and if it doesnt work well for you reinstall windows me.
Note:
Making data backups to removable disk on a regular basis is recommended. Whether you have a 2gb HD or a 100GB HD you should have a removable source as a backup incase the HD fails.
Whenever you attempt to upgrade /swap operating systems / muck around with the partitions with 3rd party "magic-wand" type utilities its very possible you will experience an error and lose your data. Backups are very important.
CD-writers are around $60.00 US and CD-R's are very cheap. At $600.00 it would be a steal and much cheaper - less stressful than trying to recover the data from the failed drive.
Good Luck
