Hi Everyone,

I'm not sure of all the technical names of Microsoft windows but on the bottom of the screen is a long thin rectangle which starts with "Start", then has buttons that come on as programs on the desktop are used, followed at the extreme right by programs that I believe are always running in the backround.

I do not want many of these programs that are always running in the background but I have not been able to figure out how to delete them from this part of the screen.

Any help would greatly be appreciated and thanks to all in advance.

Bob Guercio

It depends on where and what is on the Taskbar. Some item are running, just as when you open any program a small icon appears in the tray. The items next to the start button are generally just shosrtcuts. I place most of my shortcut there instead of on the desktop. That way they are accessable when in full screen mode running a program like IE.

Go to start> run> type> msconfig> hit enter. Look at the items listed under startup to see what runs at startup. You can untick items there to see if it has the desired affect.

Just realised this is Win2000. I don't have a 2000 machine running right now but I THINK the process is the same.

What you're referring to is the System Tray. Some of the items can be closed and/or configured by right-clicking and selecting the proper option.
