I started out with windows 98 had a major crash problem and a friend re-installed with Windows 2000 which months later also crashed and burned so he reinstalled it. Now when I logon I have to choose which version i want or it defauts to the latest 2000. Now I have a frequent problem of the computer restarting during a hradrive virus scan(Norton) that displays a"cannot complete scan because of critical errors on your hardrive". Other times it will restrat during the middle of accessing e-mail or downloaded a URL. It scans FAT 32 each time it reboots. I have tried clearing disks, drfragmenting etc. but nothing works. Now this friend wants to format drive c and start all over!! Any help?

First, what do you mean it burned? Do you mean you overheated the proccessor? Get yourself a decent computer!

Your hard drive is on its way out. Sounds like you've had it for a while. Time for a new one.
