Does anyone know another way of removing a DC that failed demoting from AD other then using the NTDSUTIL (with the metadata cleanup command)? Today we had a DC that wouldn't allow us to add users. It had errors in the event viewer saying there was a problem with the account identifier. Since it wasn't sent out to the site yet, I decided to demote it back to a member server and then was going to promote it back to a DC. However, when I went to demote the DC, an error was displayed that said "directory service failed to replicate off changes made locally." We also tried to delete the server out of AD computers and users. This gave an error that the DSA object could not be found. If you have any ideas on how to fix this, it would be appreciated. For us to reinstall it will take 5-6 hours. We have to use the compaq install crap to set up the servers. Not my idea, but I have to do it. TIA for any help.
