I installed Win2k on my friends dead laptop. It had a corrupt version of Win ME and no restore disks available. Now it shows dual boot but when you boot to ME it errors. I was able to find a boot disk for ME and restore to the last stable configuration so now can boot into either but they are on the same partition which can raise problems. I didn't want to make a new partition and run the risk of losing some of the existing data. How can I remove 2000 now that I don't need it anymore from the same partition without erasing the drive? Slow and easy steps would be appreciated.
I figured I can edit the startup option for win2000 out of the boot.ini file but I'd like to remove the system files and folders as well.
Thanks
JK

Personally, I would keep 2000 (about the best OS Microshaft ever made) rather than ME (undoubtedly the worst they ever made) but thats your call.
Boot to whichever system you really want to KEEP.
Right click on the START button, click EXPLORE.
Under C:\ you will find WINDOWS (Me)and WINNT(2000).
Highlight the one you do NOT want and hit the DELETE key.
You should really reconsider before getting rid of 2kPro. To quote another post earlier this week, "Anyone preferring Me over any other OS should commit themselves for psychiatric evaluation"!
