Seems to be an age old question, but the only solutions I've seen offered don't work.
I am logged in as Administrator and I've copied folders to a FAT32 drive which automatically sets them as Read Only. I want to rename some of them but can't.
One suggestion said to uncheck the read-only attribute on the Desktop.ini file in the folder(s). That didn't work. The other said to run a cmd prompt and, navigating to a folder I want to rename, set the attribute using the attrib -r command. That didn't work either.
There's no Security tab on folders that are on a FAT 32 partition so I can't assign folder permissions that way, so I guess my question is, how to take ownership of the folders to make the changes.

Okay - I'll file this one under "really Duh" myself. Seems I can rename the folders despite the attribute. But I'd still like to remove the Read Only so I don't get the prompt.
Then again, this raises another question. How can something be Read Only if it's readily altered?

If attrib did not change the R then it's likely that drive is corrupt.

If at first you don't succeed, you're about average.M2
