Comment: We had an old win2k server in our domain. It did crash and i dont wants to restore it fram a backup because we dont need it anymore. But is there a way to remove it from Active directory without running dcpromo on that server? Please help me. The eventlog on the new server is reciving lots of error because it cant find the old server.

Reply: (edit)If the server is not a domain controller then there would be no need to run dcpromo on it. It it's not a DC, then just delete the computer account. If it was a DC then AD won't let you delete the account and you'll need to do what's referred to as meta-data cleanup using the ntdsutil utility. It's not terribly complicated but keep in mind that using these tools assumes that you know what you are doing and if things are not done correctly, you can cause serious damage. Follow this article will explain the procedure. http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=216498 Good luck. Glen
