I am trying to have my group policy remove Internet Explorer from the desktop and the taskbar. In computer configuration the description of the setting says it will remove IE from the desktop and the taskbar, but after the group policy gets implemented, IE is removed from the desktop but not the taskbar!! I want IE removed from both places, why is it removing it from just the desktop?

If you are talking about the quick launch near the Start button, just right mouse click and select 'Delete'.

It could be that MS is leaving uninstalled crap behind, like usual.

yes remove IE from the quick launch as well as the desktop, but i don't want to go to every client computer and delete IE from the quick launch when the gpo setting says it will remove it from the desktop and quick launch, but then it still is in the quick launch after the policy has been executed. The policy is under user configuration -> desktop.

I want to remove the shortcuts of IE on the desktop and quick launch because I want the users to only use Firefox. But for some reason the quick launch shortcut remains when the gpo that says it will remove IE from the desktop and quick launch is executed. I edited the default domain policy and 'enabled remove IE from desktop/quick launch'. The desktop IE shortcut is gone but not the quicklaunch!!

i would set up a script that runs at login time so it deletes the quick launch icon from the users profile.
