I set up a server as a domain controller and a domain using active directory. Now I have decided not to use the server as a domain controller. How do I turn off the domain controller portion so I can just use it as a computer that is a part of a workgroup?

thanks,
brian

You cannot 'switch off' the domain controller portion. You need to run dcpromo.exe again to uninstall the Active Directory.

You don't 'remove active directory'. You demote the domain controller. It's the same thing but you are confusing things. Just because you demote a DC doesn't mean you necessarily remove AD. But, if you don't want a DC to be a DC anymore then yes, you run DCPROMO again.
