I have a program that has suddenly appeared in my start-up menu called X-Finder. I removed this from all locations except from c:\windows\dialers. At least I think that was the file path because now, I cannot find it. I accidentally clicked on this program and it is a stupid program called 'Sex Finder' that is written in German. How on earth do I remove this? Is this some form of spyware? I think this may have installed itself when I downloaded what I believed to be a video clip using the Xolox program. It wasn't a video clip at all but some soft porn image that played for 2 seconds. What is going on? When I right click this X-finder, I am not able to close it. I cannot get it off my start bar.
Please help!! Thank you

I got x-finder or sex-finder virus, worm or whatever it is. This thing has taken over my computer. Ad-aware doesn't detect it, neither does Norton Antivirus. Anyone have any suggestions? Google, Symantec and Mcafee searches turned up nothing useful.

Thanks, Jeff

I have tried all weekend to rid my machine of one of these things with no success. I have searched every topic and loaded every anti-virus program or utility I found mentioned and none helped. I even downloaded a utility that turns of items in the registry and turned off the lot and the ruddy thing still loaded. I think I will have to reformat the hard drive which is going to be a real pain but as I have a young daughter who uses this machine I have no choice. I think this is the start of a real huge potential problem as all the anti-virus people are being very coy about it and giving it a low status but it is the most annoying virus I have ever come across.

I have literally spent all weekend on this one having picked up a similiar 'dialer' program myself and I was determined to erase the trash and did not want to reformat. Well I finally succeeded and I will tell you how. You need two pieces of free software maybe three but it was the last two that did the trick. Also a good virus hunter (I used PC-cillen 30 day free trial).
First you need Advanced Startup Manager from www.rayslab.com. This handy little program allows you to turn off start up programs in the registry and turn them on again without damage. You need Adware 5 from Lavasoft (although I am not convinced this had much affect but it's a freebie so what the heck). Finally and the one that done it for me was Swat It from lockdowncorp.com, a nice little freebie for chasing Trojans which is what this is.
Just running these programs will NOT do the trick as the pesky thing seems to change its name in the registry, so turning off what you think it is will not work. I ran Pc-illon first and weeded out several viruses, then Adware 5 and finally Swat It which I think was the real cure and you may want to try going straight there. It was the only one to find a couple of files one in a thing called SCRSVR which kept popping up and was obviously part of the problem. The virus was called funlove or something so a good clue. I then searched for every mention of DLRES and SCRSVR the Li-speed program and the webdialler and deleted them, even going into the registery and removing all trace. Also turn off and delete all mentioned above with the Advanced StartUp Manager. Now the clever bit, because without this it still came back to haunt me as I say the thing changes its name in the registry and you may not be able to delete all the mentioned above because windows is using them. Shut down your computer and cold boot holding down the shift key, you will go into Safe Mode. Then do another search for the above and delete any of the files windows would not let you delete before. Then and this is the crunch because without this the bugger will come back again, go into the Advance StartUp Manager and uncheck any new start-up that has appeared usually a series of numbers and letters. Re-boot and after about 15 hours work (for me)hey-presto the blighter has finally gone. Go back to the Advance Manager and delete the file you last checked off. Hopefully this will work for you because until some of the boffins out there find a simpler way and I suspect there is'nt because they are remaining a bit coy about and calling it 'low catagoury' which is a joke, it's offensive I have a child that uses my machine, and I don't want a picture of a copulating couple coming up every time I boot up, and if I used a modem instead of cable could have cost me hundreds of pounds, not nice.
