The closest thing to remote desktop that windows 2000 has is NetMeeting, but it has really limited features and security. The best option for remote desktop in Windows 2000 for the common user, that I know of, is the program PCanywhere. Of course if you are talking about dealing with a Windows 2000 server then you can use terminal services, which is virtually a full function remote desktop service.

We use VNC. It's a free program and it works great. We put it on our NT and W2K servers as a service so we can take control again after a reboot. When we rolled it our to the workstations we put an icon on the desktop and one in the MS shortcut bar. Then when someone calls the helpdesk we have them start the program. It places an icon in the system tray. They hover their mouse over it and tell us their IP and we connect to their machine. When we finish, they close the icon. That way they don't fear MIS is watching them unbeknownst. Go to Google and type in VNC - it's from AT&T Labs.
