Comment: Can you use Remote Desktop Connection (the new Terminal Service Client) to Win 2k Pro? If so, how? I am using Remote Desktop Connection to a mixture of Win XP Pro, Win 2k Adv, and Win 2k Pro PCs. I can connect with no problem to Win XP Pro, and Win 2k Adv, but I can't seem to connect to any computer running Win2k Pro, and I don't know if there is an authorization setting I am to set or where it is on Win2k Pro (unlike Win2k Adv). Any insight?

Reply: (edit)Windows 2000 Pro won't receive RDC connections as it has no "server" side software for this. RDC is a variant of Terminal Server. With TS you require both the client and server side to create a connection. The same is true for RDC. In XP, RDC is built in and has both portions of the program so the connection can be either way (remote in, remote out). The 2000 Advanced Server you connected to likely had TS installed and running and that provided the server side you connected to with RDC....remember, RDC is just TS with a facelift and a couple added features, so you were able to make the connection just like you would using the TS client from a 2000 PC.

Reply: (edit)Thanks Curt. I'm familiar with RDC being the new TS but its still good info for the posting for anyone else. I do have an additional question....Will RDC/TS also not work on Win98, WinME, or Win XP Home given that they also have no "server" side? I also know there used to be a T.S. client creator...is there a T.S. server creator or equiv? I'll be looking it up on MS Knowledge Base but just double checking...sometimes it and google searches can get a bit....nebulus.

Reply: (edit)I have not found a way to use RDC on Win2K. Have you considered using VNC instead? It should work on nearly any Windows system, as well as Linux, Unix, Apple boxes. Plus it's free. There are many different versions available so you're bound to suit one that does what you want. The original version is at http://www.realvnc.com There's also a useful tool called Fastpush which will install VNC remotely available at http://www.darkage.co.uk.

Reply: (edit)if you would like to use VNC combined with filetransfers between local and remote HD, try ultr@vnc , available at: http://ultravnc.sourceforge.net/ or www.ultravnc.org the difference is that RDC provides faster rendering of your RD. And ultravnc neither transmits the sound, still one of the best options I guess. EnjoY !
