Previously I was able to run my HP Deskjet 3740 series printer on my old Pentium II, 200MHz cpu. Although it did not meet the minimum cpu speed requirement (233 MHz) I was still able to install it somehow i.e. probably by manually inserting the driver. Problem is, I would like to reinstall it but I can't remember how. When I run the setup from the HP install cd I get "CPU does not meet system requirements" error message. Is there a workaround? Is there a way to force Windows 2K to point to the driver. I've tried clicking "Reinstall driver" in the 'USB Device Properties' dialog box, but I get "Windows is unable to locate driver" even when I specify the folder where the driver is located.
What problem were you having? If it's software is still installed, your problem may be cured by you plugging it into a different USB port. In any case, see this for problems you can have with USB port connections.

http://www.computing.net/answers/wi...Have you un-installed it's software in Add/Remove, or have you reloaded 2000?
If you have, try the following with the USB cable unplugged from the printer - most installs of USB printers require you connect the USB cord after, or during, installing the drivers, not before.
When you do connect it, it probably must be switched on, if it has a switch.Sometimes you can install the drivers anyway by bypassing the default install program.
Windows needs to find at least one *.inf file for it, whether it is still there in Windows, or on the HP CD.
If 2000 has not been reloaded on the 200 mhz computer the printer was connected to before, go to Control Panel - Printers .... - use Add Printer, and see if your 3740 (or 3700 series, or whatever) is listed. Even if you have uninstalled the HP software for it in Add/Remove Programs, the *.inf file for it may still be there.
If it is not there, or if 2000 has been reloaded, do the same thing, but choose Have Disk, and browse to the HP CD. Find a folder with at least one *.inf file. If there is a folder for 2000, look there.
If you get a message this is not for your device, try another *.inf file.If you have un-installed it's software, or maybe in any case, you will probably have to let it find files on the HP CD once the *.inf file is acceptable to it.
