Windows 2000 could not srart because the following file is missing or corrupt: \system32\mtoskrnl.exe. How will I be able to re-install this file when 2ooo will not boot.

Try booting from your Win2000 CD. Somewhere in there you should have the option to repair your existing installation.

If you don't have a CD, your only real chance is if you created some Win2000 boot disks.

i have the same problem!
also my pc gives me explorer errors during surfingor or playing games it just shuts down and restarts for no reason. i reinstalled win2k four time but no help.
first i thought my harddrive is damaged, but an ibm utility told me taht there is no problem!
same error when i install win xp or both with fat32!
when i restart i often have the error message:
address ******* base at ****** datastamp ****** -ntfs.sys(or ntoskrnl.exe)
PLEASE HELP ME/US

The ntoskernel message could indicate a problem with virus infection.

Oh wow! i'm so glad to hear i'm not alone.

I was able to get into word 2000 through safe mode.

(press f8 when it begins to boot up or if you are on dual mode, like me, with win 98 and 2k partitioned, press f8 when you are given a choice to select one or the other.)

When i was in safe mode i could fix a couple of the problems through the control panel -system - hardware device manager - and directing the program to install from one of my win 98 folders.

BUT the PCI simple communications controller is still a big yellow question mark! Not at all sure how to get that fixed.

Upgrading to Win2K has turned out to be the WORST computer decision i've made yet!

Oops make that WINDOWS 2000 professional (not word!)
