Comment:

I want to reinstall Win2000 on a Dell Latitude Laptop that I have because of many virus and adware that I had problems removing.

I tried to reformat the drive using the Recovery Console but the install just installed another Win2000 operating system on the PC as a duel boot.
I guess the format command did not format the drive.
When I dir the drive the files are still there.

I would like to remove all the data on the laptop and just have a clean version of the OS.

Any help would be appreciated.

Boot from the Windows 2000 CD.
Indicate that you do not want to repair or upgrade.
When you get to the section regarding which partitions to install on, use the "D" function to delete all existing partitions. Then pick the unused space and pick to format.

Sometimes the install will still keep 2 entries in the boot menu, but you'll only have one installation. You can remove the extra entry from the boot.ini file.

Just run the dell recovery cd that came with the system.

PS you can't format a partition you are on like you tried with recovery console.

ntengineer-
There is only one partition and it is the C: NTFS. There is an option for D to delete partition but that option is not working it only allows for ENTER=Install and F3=Quit.

wanderer-
I wish I had the dell recovery cd. If you know a place where I can get a copy?

Thanks.

You should have received a Recovery CD with your computer. Contact Dell, and they can send you one, as long as you're the owner of record. You will need to supply the Service Tag number.
