I had a problem with my Ethernet adapter. So I decided to uninstall TCP/IP without good thinking. After the protocol was removed, I tried to reinstall it. However, I couldn't find protocol listed when I tried to add a protocol. I have the installation CD, but I don't know where to look for the protocol. Can anybody help? Thanks.

Go to start, help. Enter "installing tcp/ip"
Here...
To install TCP/IP
Open Network and Dial-up Connections.
Right-click the network connection for which you want to install and enable TCP/IP, and then click Properties.
On the General tab (for a local area connection) or the Networking tab (all other connections), if Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) is not in the list of installed components, then do the following:
Click Install.
Click Protocol, and then click Add.
In the Select Network Protocol dialog box, click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and then click OK.
Verify that the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) check box is selected, and then click OK.
NotesTo open Network and Dial-up Connections, click Start, point to Settings, and then click Network and Dial-up Connections.
You must be logged on as an administrator or a member of the Administrators group in order to complete this procedure.
TCP/IP is installed as the default

I know how the usual way to install the protocol, because that's how I uninstall TCP/IP. The problem I had was that when I tried to reinstall TCP/IP or Internet protocol, it is not on the list when I click on "Add".
I have tried to eject both Ethernet and Token-Ring cards (I have an IBM Thinkpad and two NIC) and just couldn't the protocol back to the list. Searching on the Microsoft site didn't provide much information.

Hi,
There is a KB solution for that, it is for W2K server, but it's similar for W2K Pro.
Be prepared for it !! theres a lot to do...http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q299451
Enjoy !!
