Hi,
when i insert an AUDIO CD into my drive i get an error msg: "[Desktop] Access to the specified device, path, or file is denied"
(when i insert a software installation cd with autorun program, the error msg does not occur)i traced the error msg to the "wowexec.exe" system file that's used when starting an 16-bit application.
when i set the "Autorun" property of
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\CDRom
to 0 (disable) then the error does not occur, but that's not the solution.QUESTION:
how can i find out (in the registry i presume) which program(s) are (auto-)starting when i insert an AUDIO CD? i don't want to uninstall and re-install different applications to find out which one is causing the error.(the problem could be a space in the path of a shortcut for the program trying to start. see Homepage URL)
thanks for the help!
cheers,
tom

id recommend opening taskmanager (right click on taskbar and select it) go to the process tab, and set the screen to be on top, then insert a audio cd, and there will be some software thats been assigned to auto run cd's, what music software do you or did you have on there? things like real player do this and cause horrible problems with it.
hope this helps

hi nudesign,
thanks for your (attempt to) help, but unfortunately that didn't get me further.
there is no process appearing in the taskmanager when i insert a cd.
first i thought this could work, too.my explanation for this would be: the error msg occurs in the wowexec.exe that's trying to start the (16-bit) program, before the process actually runs. (the underlying problem is probably a space in the registry path, as described here: http://www.jsiinc.com/SUBB/tip0600/rh0610.htm)
programs that are likely candidates are:
* CD Blaster
* CDTrustee (free CD Collection DB)
- FreeRIP (less likely)
- IsoBuster (less likely)unlikely candidates are:
- WinRip
- Windows Media Player (all file associations unselected in options)so the question (or problem) still stands... any more help? please :-)
thanks!
tom
