My computer has starting re-booting itself randomly. I have ran virus and spyware scans, not finding anything. Is this a hardware or software problem? Sometimes it will go days without re-booting and sometimes just 20 minutes. The computer seems to run fine in between re-boots.

any help would be appreciated.

Josh

I am having same issue but mine just shuts off and only during media files being played. Such as a song or a movie, even then it takes about 3 minutes to turn off. Otherwise I can leave PC running for days and no problems. Power Supply maybe?

If no virusses then its prolly cuz your processor gets too hot as safety it will turn off the computer so it wont damage the processor. But i still think you got a virus, do you have all security updates installed on your pc from microsoft?

Depending on the type of PC you should also consider it being a bad capacitor issue. I have to deal with that problem with a lot of Dell GX 270's. To see if your motherboard could have this problem check out www.badcaps.net

joshinok - first thing i would try is another power supply. when they start to fail they will cause random rebooting at diferent times. just depends on when the PSU over heats the failing components.

Too much heat or bad power supply most likely culprits.

You can avoid many of these Windows problems with Linux. Linspire eases the transition for new users
