Post your system specs along with a detailed summary of what you wish to use your computer for.
Business or work--If you choose xp choose the professional edition. If this isnt an option choose windows 2000.
Email chat and kazaa--windows me. look for a full oem copy at ebay or ubid. you can get them for around $75.00

A good piece of advice I read is never install an operating system untils at least the first service pack has been released.
XP has proven troublesome for many users and there is no service pack yet. This week the update site for XP Pro showed 19 critical updates and 19 recommended updates available - representing many megabytes.
If you want stability and like to sleep nights go for Windows 2000. There are two official service packs and an SP3 beta can be downloaded.

Summary: Uummm... bookn2 (not denying your own personal experience - but...) Networking '9x with NT/W2K and XP is (should be) child's play, if you follow/understand the basics. netbeui is the simplest protocol...
