I recently had a whole load of fun win a virus, and after a couple of days of skirmishes I think I have won the battle against it. It infected loads of files in my system32 folder, and although I have now got rid of the virus, it's left behind a load of screwed up files there.

I have the exact same OS on my laptop (win2k professional), and I was wondering if it would be possible to simply copy the contents of the system32 folder from my laptop onto my desktop where the virus was? There are a lot of messed up files, and I can't find out which ones are fine, and which ones need replacing!!

Would simply overwriting the entire system32 folder with the contents of the system32 folder from my laptop work??

I need to do this because Im getting tons of "xxx is not a valid win32 application" boxes.

Also I assume if I do this I'll have to boot from a floppy, because I expect if I rewrite the system32 folder with windows running, things may get interesting!!

Cheers

Go ahead. The System32 folder alone doesn't contain dynamic data. But beware!, because the subfolders do!. I'd suggest you don't mess with the subfolders for the moment. Another nice option would be the Repair option available when you boot from the Win2K installation CD.
