2000 server with AD. Win 98se workstations with office xp. What are my options for pushing service packs and patches/updates out to the clients. Is it best to use a logon script or can it be done from AD. Any feedback welcome.

Your options are pretty limited. You can push software and software updates via W2k Group Policy but that will only be applied to w2k client machines. Your 9x machines will not understand group policy. In other words, until you upgrade your clients to w2k or XP, you wont gain all the benefits of AD.

There is some good information on creating silent installs of Microsoft products here. The article is about IE5, but the command line switches seem to work with other installers (patches, updates, etc.) as well. I use the /Q:A (silent administrator mode) switch in login scripts to push minor updates to win9x clients. It works very well.
