I have two machines, a PC and a laptop. Both are running Windows 2000 Pro. The laptop OS is a recent upgrade from 98SE.
In recent times, I have tried to install software onto my laptop that is supposedly Windows 2000 compatible without success. What happens is I will start the install executable and it will process but then just hangs there and I get this little sound...I can't seem to describe it but sounds like a choppy little "chink" or sounds like a mix between a click and a ding that's shorted out (???). No error messages or anything, but the software won't install (or run sometimes).
The same software installs and runs nicely on the desktop.
Note: not all software have this problem. Only some.
What should I look at in my laptop to narrow down the cause of these installation problems?

not really any help, but I'd just like you to know that you arent alone out there.
i have the same problem...
i cant start clonecdsetup-executable and neither the executable including new drivers for my soundcard
what happens when i start the program(s) is that it loads about 2-4secs, then just suddenly stops. no sound, no error message. in task manager(Processes tab) I can see the program, or programs to be exact. because for each and every time i start the executable it just wont start but a new "SetupCloneCD.ex" appears in task manager

try performing a clean install... before that make sure you have drivers for your devices....
format /u (unconditional)
"SetupCloneCD.ex" i beleive is CLONE CD software to make cds. You might want to try nero.... and don't have it make any coreections
