I bet you all have seen this error before, "*.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program.

An error log is being created"

Now, I have some big problems. To start, no matter what I do, every program seems to eventually crash like this. I can open MSIE, and go to any website, but I can never get any further than one link down. I can browse My Computer for a little bit, but it will crash by the time I get to Program Files for example. It won't let NAV2k2 load. I am thinking this is a virus, namely, SirCam.

I downloaded the removal tool, but I don't have SirCam apparently. This whole problem first started when I was playing Grand Theft Auto III and my computer restarted for no good reason. It seemed fine when it started up again, but things started crashing.

I don't recognize all the running processes, but I did find one suspicious. I have two processes running called "rundll32.exe". I can end process but they come right back with a different PID. Here's something odd, rundll32.exe is EXACTLY 10,000 bytes long. I find something wrong with that, even if nobody else does.

And another thing, DRWATSON's error log, where is that? Maybe I can try and figure out what the heck is going on.

Am I screwed? I don't really feel like reformatting, but if it comes to that, I will.

Thanks a lot, Keith

I was able to scan my drive over the my network; there is no virus. What do I do now?

There are two ways to run a repair of system files:

1)boot to the Windows 2000 CD and choose Repair system files option

2) Start>Run> 'cmd' then type: sfc /scannow
If you have SP2 installed, hopefully you left all the files it set up and did not erase any, since some of them will now be needed. Incidentally, this is the 'system file checker' command-line utility that is provided with W2000.
