When I installed win 2000 on a freshly formatted C drive, it doesn't bother to ask me for the Product Key. It still installs though. Is this normal?

Seems like you have a magic disk. This would not be normal for a retail version of the OS. And would have nothing to do with the drive being freshly formatted.

Yes, there are versions of Win2k CD's that do not require keys. In fact, it is relatively easy to make a CD such as this yourself. All it requires is modifying 2 characters in a text file and reburning the CD.

Sorry Ken, I stand corrected. I have seen the modified re-burned versions but was unaware their was a straight retail version available with the same characteristics.
