I have an ECS 848P-A motherboard. I am installing a WD 160GB harddrive to be my boot drive. This drive is SATA, and the original configuration was for a 120GB IDE drive ( which dieded). During the boot sequence the drive is recognized, but I am unable to get the WD install tools to recognize it, or to get a CR-rom to be recognized. This drive is being set up for a new installation of W2K.
"During the boot sequence the drive is recognized". Is it recognised by the correct model number and capacity?
You need to have the boot order in the BIOS set to CD before HDrive.
Is the SATA drive connected to a SATA port on the MBoard? If so you need to supply SATA drivers by floppy disk when prompted. You will need to hit F6 to tell Windows that those drivers are needed.
The WD install tools are no good for this installation. The SATA drivers are supplied by the MBoard maker. They should be on your MBoard CD. You need to copy them to a floppy disk. If you don't have a floppy disk you may need to slipstream the SATA drivers into your WinXP CD. Additionally your install CD MUST have at least SP1 integrated into the CD in order to configure the 160GB drive. SP2 can also be slipstreamed into your CD. Post back with the status of these items.
