I tried to install WIN2000, but the install program returned this error after first rebooting : '...Error 7, unable to launch NTKRNLMP.EXE'
The, i tried to launch the install without the boot CD :
I re-boot from a floppy disk and launched the I386\WINNT32.exe (like i read in an answer on this site).
It has well copied the files on my hard disk in $NT... dir, but i still got the same error !!! (incrimining the NTKRNLMP.EXE)
Does Anybody can help me ?
I don't think it's the CD.By the way, someone told me that the win2000 cd was bootable EVEN if the cd player is not registered in the bios boot's sequence !
Is it true and how can it be possible ?Thanks

Are you certain that your system is W2K compliant; i.e. does W2K 'recognise' your HD - there are HD's around (recent items) that W2K doesn't 'like' until the appropriate (manufacturer's) patches are available...
Also how did you configure the HD to start with?
Re CD boot-ups...
If your BIOS does not allow CD boot-ups, as part of the boot seqnece/options then there is no way to boot from the CD; this is a BIOS function... With a boot-disk (that includes CDROM support) you can access the CD, but not boot from it.
One work around that may resolve your initial problem. Clear out the HD of the current 'failed' install, and then copy the i386 to the C: system partition. You will need a boot-disk with CDROM suppport to do this; http://www.bootdisk.com is one place to go to get a version or three. I'd advise getting the DOS6.22 (with CDROM support) version and both the '95 and '98 versions as well (again with CDROM suppport). I find the DOS version is still the one to have around and use generally...
Once the i386 is copied over, remove any disks and run the following command:
c:\i386\winnt /b /x /s:c:\i386 (and press Enter).
/b = floppy-less install
/x = make not set-up floppies
/s: = location of winnt.exe (in this case s: = c:\i386)This is the command using NT3x/4 and it should work for W2K. It usually resolves a host of minor installaton issues; is usually slightly faster too.
