Subject: Problems with USB and PS/2 mice in Win2k
Comment:

I have two mice installed on the my computer, one USB and one PS/2. I am running Win2k. Win2k identifies both mice and says that both are working properly. The PS/2 mouse is fine and smooth, but the USB is extremely choppy. I have the latest mouse and USB drivers for my system. Anyone else having this problem?

My system is a dual 1GHz PIII, 640 MB SDRAM on a Tyan S2505 (Tiger 200) board. I'm running Win2k on the second partition of my SCSI drive.

I left some stuff out of my original message:

I'm using a Microsoft Trackball Optical for the USB mouse, and a regular Intellimouse for the PS/2.

When I installed XP on my machine, both mice worked fine. Since it works on XP and not on Win2k, I'm assuming it's a driver problem. XP uses USB 2.0 drivers while Win2k doesn't. Unless someone has another solution to this, I'll probably just wait for MS to come out with USB 2.0 drivers for Win2k (which, they say, are coming...) and see if that fixes the problem.

I have the exact same problem- I'm running Win2k on 2 different Compaq laptops and like yours, both have PS/2 and USB mice listed in device manager as working properly but the USB mouse is insane. Compaq does have a known "falling" "floating" "flying" mouse issue but I've installed all available patches and really just have a problem with the USB mouse lagging and acting "chopy" just like you said. I'd love to solve this problem so I can enjoy my computers again!

i also have a compaq, but only have one mouse installed. Compaq AP200 with Intellemouse explorer, it's freezes for a second or 2 every 10 seconds or so....and just keeps getting worse and worse.....i thought it was the USB, so i switched it over to PS/2 and even tried a plain intellimouse, same thing was happening there.......it's getting really hard to use the machine so i hope someone can help here
