hi again! I just recently was formating my PC for a clean install of a new OS. I'm trying to upgrade from windows 98SE to windows 2000 pro. everything went fine, formated the HDD, formated it with the NTFS disk format, install windows 2000, And now heres the problem. After most of everyting was done with installing it, it says it will reboot in 15 seconds or somthing like that. Ok it reboots and after that, the screen that says "verifieing DMI pool data..." it hangs... nothing happens.. notta.. zip.. The hdd isnt even reading. the only thing going on is the floppy drive is lit up with no disket inside.. I reboot over and over again but only to find the exact same result.. So what could it be? Could it have somthing to do with the jumpers? is it windows 2000? or is my HDD just worth crap.. I hate to sound like a newbie on this (which I dont claim to be one) but please help me out.. I'm so sick of win 98SE. With all the errors and all..

Try entering the BIOS and enabling the option to "reset configuration data" If there is a setting for PnP OS aware, enable it.

There is an option for that. But what exactly would this do? I'm kind of a newbie with bios.. *ducks the rocks people throw at him* lol

The reset data setting will free up the system resources so that they can be redistributed. The other setting allows Windows to configure the hardware. Since it doesn't appear that the POST even got to starting Windows the PnP aware OS setting may help.

Erasing the BIOS takes more than that. This will simply do what I stated.

I would also check and ensure you have the latest BIOS version. If you don't, you may want to consider flashing it...especially if OtheHill's advice doesn't do the trick.

I'll have to try some of that. Thanks guys. Oh and another thing. A while back I used a geanie pig HDD just to see how well windows 2000 pro ran on my system without formating my main HDD. It ran just fine without any errors of any sort. I wont use that one because its super slow and has only 3 gigs lol. Im asumeing it has to do with the HDD but I wont know till I do some tests..

Anyway thanks guys :)
