Subject: Problems with CD-RW installation
Comment:

Have problem istalling new cd-rw. Currently, have HD as master and cd-rom as slave on primary IDE. Try connecting new cd-rw as master on secondary IDE but when power up the pc, the BIOS could not detect all items connected to the IDEs. Tried having HD as master on primary IDE and cd-rom (master)+cd-rw (slave) on the secondary IDE but still the pc could not detect anything from both IDE and froze. I've tried switching the jumpers but no luck. Can someone show me some light here?

Is the secondary IDE turned on in the BIOS?
If so is it all set to auto?

if Futuretech's suggestions don't work, try a new IDE cable. If that doesn't work, call CDRW tech support and have them troubleshoot with you to see if the CDRW drive is defective.

All the IDE are set to auto initially but once the secondary IDE is connected and the pc is switch on, all items are not detected. I've tried changing the cable but same problem. As for the cdrw, it works fine if I set it to slave on primary IDE. Problems come up when I connect cable to the secondary IDE for the cdrom. Is there a conflict somewhere?

I also have a problem with CD-RW installation. I have the HD as master on the primary IDE and the CD-RW as master on the secondary IDE. In addition, I also have my DVD rom as slave on the second IDE. The jumpers on the DVD drive is set to slave while the one on the CD-RW is set to master so that shouldn't be the problem

The bios detects it, it shows the same settings that I mentioned above. I am running Windows XP with the Asus A7m266 motherboard and that detects it, however, I get one of those exclamation points next to both my cd-rom drives in the device manager. I tried deleting them and then adding the hardware again, however, I still encounter the same problem with the exclamation points right next to the two drives. Neither of the drives' icons show up either in 'My Computer'

Any response will be appreciated.
