Comment: I recently upgraded from Windows ME to Win2k Pro. Everything went smoothly (except my SB Live card not working but Windows claiming it was fine which puzzled me for a few minutes but new LiveWare fixed that). I can still use my USB HD just fine, but there is a curious problem. I can no longer yank and reconnect the drive on a whim like I used to with Windows 98, 98SE, and ME. When I unplug the drive, Win2k pops up telling me I need to tell it before I do such a thing. I know what it means, I have a USB zip drive which I have to do that with. Win2k even gives me an option to show a tray icon to make stopping the drive before disconnecting easy... but the option flat out does not work. I tell it to provide me with the icon, but the next time I hook the drive up it does not. Now originally my problem was that when I unplugged the drive I had to reboot before I could access it again. This is no longer the case. I found 3 different versions of the Win2k drivers for the IDE-USB Bridge and the SCSI Adapter that it installs. None of the drivers as a pair would do what I needed so I started mixing and matching and eventually I came up with a combination that allows me to unplug the drive, get that warning screen, then plug it back in and use it. My big question is, is there any way to stop the drive properly before unplugging it? I would love to have the icon in my system tray like with my USB zip drive so I could be assured the drive is all ready to be unplugged when I yank the cord, but I can't find any way to make this happen. Thanks in advance for any info, Dustin Rodriguez P.S. The Buslink tech support people are very nice and really want to be helpful. The guy I was emailing with responded quickly and often and then called me at home to talk over the problem, but unfortunately had no idea how to fix my problem and was trying to claim that it was either a problem with my BIOS or that stopping a drive before unplugging it was a vendor-specific trick (neither of which are true of course).
