I am having problems starting a 2000 prof workstation. Before you logon to the workstation I get a message WINLOGON.exe has generated errors.(Blue screen). Can't read it all it is so fast and restarts the PC.
I was in the middle of installing SP3 and it looked up and after that it never aloud me back in. Any ideas???

If you were never able to logon after installing SP3, try to boot from your Last Known Good Configuration.
If you logged on even once after installing SP3, try booting into Safe Mode. This will disable all but the most important drivers, and allow you to troubleshoot, or remove the service pack.
I believe you can access these start-up procedures by pressing F8 after the POST (Power On Self Test) runs when you've restarted your PC.
Hope this helps.

First of all it sounds like you have auto reboot turned on . It is turned turned on by default in windows 2000. Go into safe mode ( if possible) then right click on MY Computer then left click on properties. Now choose the advanced tab and click on startup and recovery. on the bottom uncheck the box that says automatically reboot. This will at least allow you to see the blue screen so that you will no what file is giving you the problem. My second choice is to load w2k CD INTO CDR ROM and boot from cd rom. Choose the repair option and go into the recovery console. At that point run Checkdisk/f This might repair the file having problems.

I have this problem, too. It happened the exact same way. Problems after installing SP3. I can't even open the computer in safe mode. The option of last good configuration has no effect either.

Imagine that, a Microsoft "fix" that wrecks your computer.
I am having the same problem..........
Same exact thing happened, started the SP3 install, then it wouldn't restart.........
Thanks M$

winlogon.exe has generated error and continue to restart....
To resolve this problem I tried many ways copying necessary fies for log etc. but end up hitting my head against the wall. Last I tried to explore the CD what. On the cd I used fast repair and choose cd to repair from first time that did not work right but second time when I tried it worked... it also took a lot of time. Not necessarly fast repair but hopeful one. Hope it helps :-)
