Comment:

I have a little problem with Win2000.
When I want to shut down first everything is all right. But when "Saving properties" is displayed there is a delay of about 30 seconds. Nothing happens at all and after this delay the computer continues shutting down as usually. As this delay is very annoying I would be happy if someone could give me a hint how to solve this problem.

Thanks a lot!

Upgrade your system. Some computers take longer than others. Windows likes to "Safely" shut down all processes before turning off.

It is not normal because it did not always take so long. It has changed suddenly. I use Win2000 with different computers and the faster one takes much longer for shutting down.

You need to exit from your antivirus program
before you shutdown, there is something in the background that is not letting windows shutdown

Seen this many times before, the fix is to boot in safe mode, rename the affending profile to .old do this in c:\document and settings then reboot, new profile is created and log off and log on times will be back to normal. You will need to copy over profile specific data such as favourites.

I noticed that shutdown took much longer after I recently intalled Q329170 Security Update. I uninstalled Windows 2000 Hotfix (Pre-SP4) [See Q329170 for more information], and shutdown speed returned.
