Right, here goes:

plugging in my PNY USB flash-drive, the drivers will not load completely. I can see a 'USB Mass Storage Device' in the device list, and a drive undere 'Disk drives', but at the volumes item in the device list, there is an exclamation mark. Windows came up with en error 'Windows could not load the installer for Volume.' Also the unplug/eject hardware icon is missing from the tray, and I cannot get it to come back (show icon in taskbar is checked).

Anyone has an idea as to what may be wrong here?

I tried copying another version of disk.sys and usbstor.sys from another PC, but when I copy that into the system32/drivers folder, 5 seconds later it automatically reverts to the previous version (can be seen by the date).

I am having the exact same problem with a gateway usb key and have found no solution yet. Mine never worked before, but it works on other 2000 machines in the office just fine.
