Problem reading cd's

Win 2K Pro will not read cd's on the first try I have to take them out then insert them back in at least two or three times. Each time I wait for at least 30 seconds. I know that the CD-Rom readers (scsi cd-rom, DVD-ram(scsi), DVD-r(IDE) ) that I have function normaly when I put the into another computer.
