I am having a problem understanding terminal server printer setup. We have a small network consisting of 16 users. The server is a Windows 2K terminal server and the clients all have Windows XP pro workstations. 12 users are located in the same building as the server and the other 4 users are located in a remote site. The remote users use VPN to connect to the server. The application that all users run from the server require that users print to either a forms printer or a laser printer. Some users have their printer connected to their workstation, and some need to access a networked printer.
This whole Terminal Server printing setup has got me real confused. How do I setup the users that have a locally connected printer on the terminal server, and how if different, do I setup the users who do not have a locally connected printer. I know how to install a local and networked printer in Windows XP but getting them setup to print while in a Terminal Server session is a mystery to me. If someone could explain the process to me I think I could then follow through with the actual setup. I am also confused about the printer checkbox located on the local resourses tab of the remote desktop client that the users run to connect to the server. When is it checked if ever? and what happens when it is checked?
Thanks in advance for any help,
Frank

All you have to do is install the same printerdriver on the TS as on the local machine and it will be mapped automatically at logon. Once installed on the TS the printer can be deleted since the drivers will still be on the system.
I'm not sure what the checkboxes are since XP uses a different TS-client than w2k does, and not familiar with it at all.
I have noticed that if the local printer's name is too long, e.g. 'HP LaserJet 1200 PCL 5e' it might cause a problem for the printer to be mapped! Shorten the printername to something like 'HP12005e' and it should be OK.
