Comment:

I recently bought a new Dell Precision 420 computer with Windows 2000 but I am unable to connect HP2500CM printer to it through the network.

I went to Add printer wizard and located the printer on the network but after that it gives me a "connect to printer" message saying "The server on which HP 2500c printer resides does not have the correct driver installed. If you want to install the driver on your local computer click Ok".

Then I click ok and try to find the driver files but i cant find them and i even downloaded the correct drivers from hp.com for windows 2000 but still no success.

Please i need to get my computer connected to printer as soon as possible and your help will be highly appreciated.

You are attempting to install the driver correctly. But if the driver you download is in 1 large file or Multiple parts. The downloads need to be extracted (most are self extrating, by double clicking on the download) others may actuall be an Install or Setup File. If possible extract file drivers to their default folders and then manually navigate to those folders when prompted for the Driver. There should be some INF file like hp2500CM2k.inf. IF it's just an install or setup you might be able to manually extract file contents by using winzip. Other wise you'll have to run their install.exe or setup.exe Good Luck!

Hi,
Just install your printer as a local printer first. And then go to properties and add a local port and give UNC path where printer is located.eg:- \\test2\hplaser,and it will surely work.

Jatin.
